She married Frank Joe Martin on June 10, 1941, in Gladstone.
Margaret grew up the daughter of farmers and spent most of her married life on the farm, where she and Frank raised their eight children. Margaret taught her children a strong work ethic and her sense of eternal optimism, whether making fried chicken, baked goods, or German-Hungarian soups in the kitchen; tending chickens or milk cows; or weeding her vegetable and flower gardens, long into her eighties.
Her home was always open to neighbors and relatives. If you walked through the door, you were family; and none left her table hungry. She taught life lessons by example, with the two most important lessons being acceptance and love.
Margaret Elizabeth Martin, 89, Mott, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, at the Good Samaritan Center.
Margaret’s family was of utmost importance to her. She is survived by her children Rita Greff, Dean (Patty) Martin, Diane (Fred) Senn, Judy (Lester) Brackel, Fritz (Marie) Martin, Ted Martin, Jane (Glenn) Boldenow, and Kathy (Terry) Udland; her grandchildren, Greg (Reacal) Martin, Jason (Sarah) Greff, Steve (Jennifer) Martin, Tonya (Jason) Moe, Russell (Elizabeth) Senn, Lance Greff, Christen (Chuck) Mathson, Deana Martin, Renee (Justin) Thompson, Chad (Michelle) Martin, Dan (Leigh) Senn, April Brackel, Megan Boldenow, Brandon (Amanda) Boldenow, Jessica (Brendan) Headrick, Kale (Amber) Udland, and John Turner (Carley) Udland; her great-grandchildren, Sophie and Audrey Martin, Mason and Macey Martin, Hannah, Olivia, Josh, and Tyler Moe, Isabella Starkman, Jake and Ethan Mathson, Otis Martin, Andrew and Nicholas Thompson, Alexis and Avery Martin, Kobe, Chayton, and Coleston Senn, Ashly and Ethan Headrick, Hannah Udland, and Connor and Myles Udland; her siblings, Richard (Angie) Rohr, Christine Messmer, Janet Sickler, and Charlene Frank; and sisters and brothers in-law Barbara Rohr, Jack Messmer, and Albert Sickler.
On Saturday, Feb. 2, in lieu of Margaret’s scheduled 90th birthday party, we are having a celebration of life at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Regent.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. with Rev. Charles Zins, officiating. Burial will take place at Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott following the Mass and a time of fellowship and luncheon.
Visitation is 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, followed by a gathering at 7 p.m. all at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions toward a memorial in Margaret’s name to the Good Samaritan Center of Mott.
