Charles Messmer, 60, formerly of Richardton, died Monday, Feb. 11, at his home in Horace.
Chuck’s Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church, Mott, with Rev. Charles Zins as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will follow the Mass and be provided by the Mott American Legion.
Visitation is toay from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Visitation will continue Thursday one hour prior to services at the church.
Charles Ernest Messmer was born Dec. 3, 1952, in Dickinson, the son of Albert and Josephine (Koenig) Messmer. He was raised and educated in the Mott area, graduating from Mott Lincoln High School in 1971.
He joined the U.S. Army on Nov. 30, 1971, and served honorably until his discharge on Aug. 29, 1973.
Charles was united in marriage to Jeanne Mangall on April 15, 1978, at Oaks. They moved to Richardton in 1979 and remained there until just recently when they moved to Horace to be closer to family and his medical treatments.
He worked throughout his life in retail sales at TSC, Woolworths and the past 20 plus years at Walmart.
During this time he also was a member of the North Dakota National Guard for 25 years.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and was a proud member of the NRA. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, wildlife watching, rock and coin collecting, attending antique and flea markets, and especially spending time with his family and granddaughters.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jeanne; their two daughters, Alicia (Allan, Jr.) Rask, West Fargo, and Jessica (Ian) Rask, Horace; two granddaughters, Aubree and Angela; his mother, Josephine, Mott; and three sisters, Elaine (Chuck) Peterson, Withee, Wisc., Yvonne (Tim) Wagner, Sarasota, Fla., and JoAnn (Jerry) Gilles, Ankeny, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Marie; and his grandparents.
Arrangements are with Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
