Daniel Wanner, 78, Dickinson, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson.
Daniel’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Keith Streifel as the celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the Mass.
Visitation will be today from noon to 8 p.m., with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Ron Keller presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Daniel Wanner was born Dec. 2, 1934, near Gorham, the son of Nick and Fannie (Hauser) Wanner. Following graduation from high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably from June 29, 1954 to June 27, 1958, having spent time in Italy.
He married the love of his life, Rose Huschka, on Jan. 2, 1961. To this union three children were born, Dee Ann, Cory and Julie. Dan worked for Kessel & Kessel Construction, Mann’s Well Drilling, self employed as a perfectionist painter, and most recently the U.S Postal Service.
His greatest enjoyment came from being outdoors, gardening, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a volunteer for both the fire department and ambulance service in Belfield. He belonged to the Belfield American Legion, the St. Anthony club, and the Jaycee club. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Rose; their three children, Dee Ann (Steve) Nelson, Dickinson, Cory (Dana) Wanner, Belfield, and Julie (Broc) Streifel, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Ryan, Brooke, Morgan and Ella Nelson, and Maci Wanner; three siblings, Veronica (Marvin) Mann, Dickinson, Dorothy (Ron) Blinston, Dickinson, and Nick Wanner, Seattle, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Marge (Herb) Wanner-Heck, Corpus Christie, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Monica Kelly and Bertha Marsh; brothers, Tony Wanner and John Wanner; and two infant brothers.
