Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City. Cremation has taken place under the care of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City.

At a later date, he will be interred in The North Dakota State Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Eldon Laverne Phillip Soehren passed away Monday, March 11, in the presence of his family at St. Alexis Hospital in Bismarck at the age of 79.

Eldon was born Feb. 7, 1934, to Hans and Viola (Graeber) Soehren in Mott. He was raised in Regent as the third child and oldest son in the family.

At the age of 18, Eldon enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served five years, primarily on a mine sweeper in the Mediterranean Sea.

While in the service, he was married to Alvina Magelky on June 6, 1957, in Regent, where they lived for few years after Eldon left the Navy.

He then went to North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, graduating as a diesel technician in 1963. After graduation he started his career in Beach working for a John Deere dealership, which began his 28-years of working on John Deere equipment in Lemmon, S.D., Casselton, Hatton, Watford City, Dillon, Mont., and Sidney, Mont.

His John Deere streak ended in 1991, when he started at O.K. Implement in Watford City, where he worked until his health induced retirement in 2011.

Since 1969, Eldon and his wife Alvina have maintained a home in Watford City, where he was a member of The Epiphany Catholic Church.

Eldon was a great fan of sports, including hockey, football, baseball and boxing. He enjoyed fishing at the local ponds around Watford City and morning coffee with his friends.

Eldon is survived by: his loving wife of 55 years, Alvina; his children, Wayne (Mair Owen) Soehren of Wayzata, Minn., Michael (Gaye) Soehren of Dickinson, Deirdre (Steven) Schwartz of Lavina, Mont.; his grandchildren, Marissa Soehren, Sean Soehren, Sion Owen, Shane Soehren, Christina Schwartz, and Bryn Soehren; his sisters, Lauretta Bolte of Riverton, Wyo., and Hazel Clark of Fresno, Calif.; his brother, Lee Soehren of Pelican Rapids, Minn., and many cousins, nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Viola, and two brothers-in-law, Tony Bolte and Kenneth Clark.
