NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A Christmas Day twister outbreak left behind damage from Louisiana to Alabama while holiday travelers in the nation's much colder midsection battled sometimes treacherous driving conditions from freezing rain and blizzard conditions.
DULUTH, Minn. — With all Northland residents apparently safe from immediate danger, state, federal and local officials began assessing damage Thursday from this week’s torrential rains and flash flood and already are putting the price tag well beyond $100 million.
Southwest North Dakota has seen a hodgepodge of weather conditions this week. But following this weekend’s cold, windy, rainy and possibly snowy conditions, residents could enjoy 70-degree weather and sunshine, said Tom Kines, senior meteorologist for AccuWeather.
Widespread rainfall over the past two weeks, combined with Friday’s snow, have not only hindered harvest activity statewide, but has brought it to a complete halt for at least one farmer in southwest North Dakota.
Though some area farmers have finished combining, others are struggling to catch up.
