WASHINGTON (AP) — In diplomatically polite terms, President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper remained at odds Wednesday over a proposed oil pipeline from Canada through the United States, with Obama showing no interest in speeding up a project that the Canadian leader sees as vital to his nation’s economy.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Attacking a deepening jobs crisis, President Barack Obama challenged a reluctant Congress Thursday night to urgently pass a larger-than-expected $450 billion plan to “jolt an economy that has stalled.” He urged lawmakers to slash Social Security taxes for tens of millions of Americans and for almost every business to encourage hiring.
The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations reported this morning that Montana and North Dakota respectively filled the worst positions for worker safety in 2009, the most recent study shows.
Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. and three sister utilities plan to consolidate five call centers into two, sell an office building in Seattle, do away with customer walk-in traffic and cut about 130 jobs in eight states over the next nine months.
