The cherries are here. Once again I must carefully position the fingers on my right hand, discreetly hiding the cuticles dark with stain and the nails that look as though they’ve been used for raking the dirt in my flower garden.
Thousands of digital cameras are snapping that famous shot of the cherry blossoms framing the Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin here despite bouts of chilly, rainy weather, but, somehow, the mood is not the same this year.
