Architecture is once again taking center stage in a city founded by railroad companies, nurtured by farmers and booming because of oil.
While much of the past century’s building design in Dickinson was utilitarian and common of the prairie surrounding it. But new houses, public, industrial and commercial buildings are picking up a modern design that shows the flare of the time much like the houses built by the railroad barons in the late 1800s.
The area experienced the second long distance outage that has occurred in four days Tuesday. Like the outage which occurred Friday, people across the state were unable to make long distance calls Tuesday, said Consolidated Public Relations Manager Rhonda Dukart.
In an era bursting with technology, some area rural residents are still without such luxuries, but after Consolidated Telecom officially announced its plans for federal funding during a presentation in Dickinson Wednesday morning, slow Internet speeds will be a thing of the past.
Area Consolidated customers who needed to make long-distance phone calls on Wednesday were forced to find alternative methods of communication for the day. Some individuals remained without long distance service through Thursday as Dickinson’s Consolidated worked with new long distance carriers for all of their customers.
