FARGO — A judge said Thursday he will permanently block a 2011 North Dakota law that would have limited drug-induced abortions, a decision the director of the state’s lone abortion clinic hopes will “pave the way” for future challenges in a state where lawmakers have adopted four anti-abortion laws this session alone.
A Dickinson man pleaded not guilty Monday at a preliminary hearing in Southwest District Court in Dickinson to charges that he violated a protection order and broke into an apartment belonging to the mother of his child and choked the woman.
Judge William Herauf said during pretrial conferences Tuesday that rescheduling hearings has become an issue at the Stark County Courthouse.
“We’re so backlogged and what’s happening with the continuances is it’s causing more and more problems because we’re using dates every time we continue dates,” Herauf said.
