This month marks the second anniversary of my soon-to-be 14-year-old niece’s diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, once commonly referred to as juvenile diabetes. Her condition is not to be confused with the more prevalent and largely preventable type 2 diabetes, once known as adult onset diabetes.
More than 50 walking and running enthusiasts took to the pavement Saturday for the Diabetes Awareness Strides Walk at the Pheasant Country Golf Course in South Heart. The inaugural South Heart Lions Club event sent participants on a two-and-a-half-mile-long stroll around the first nine holes of the golf course.
