MANNING — Dunn County will have a new sheriff on Monday. Denise Giffin, who handles human resources for the county, informed the Dunn County commissioners Wednesday at their regular monthly meeting in the Dunn County Courthouse that Clayton Coker has accepted the position as sheriff, and he will officially take over on Monday.
Western North Dakota has been getting a big splash of Mother Nature’s dust control — in the form of more than 2 inches of rain in the few days of this past week, according to the National Weather Service — but that doesn’t mean it won’t be an issue when the rain stops and the prairie dries.
HEBRON — The Morton County town known as “Brick City” watched the Little Knife River closely Friday afternoon after the typically slow, small waterway that meanders through the south side of town swelled as a result of continuous rain in recent days.
MANNING — All new employees hired by Dunn County will be subject to criminal background checks and pre-employment drug screens, a new policy that will also affect current employees who transfer departments or move into management roles.
MANNING — The Dunn County Commission agreed at its meeting at the Dunn County Courthouse on Wednesday to issue a burn ban that will be regulated by the North Dakota Fire Danger Index and require anyone who wants to burn to first check the index to assess the potential for fire to spread.
MANNING — Dunn County is looking to up its security measures at the sheriff’s office and eventually the courthouse. The effort to increase safety will start with security cameras in the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department office, a request granted by the County Commission.
MANNING — The Dunn County Commission plans to discontinue its emergency alert service that the county shares with Stark County until the commission gets a recommendation from the Dunn County emergency manager to resume the services.
