WILLISTON — The oil industry used at least 5.4 billion gallons of water in North Dakota in 2012, a record high and at least a 75 percent increase over 2011, according to preliminary figures from the State Water Commission.
Dry conditions have led to a number of blazes in the region in the past few weeks and much of southwestern North Dakota was under Red Flag warnings Tuesday. Mott and the Medora area experienced first hand what the dry conditions can do on Tuesday.
BISMARCK — Oil is not the only valuable commodity coming out of the increasing number of wells drilled in northwestern North Dakota.
