Dry conditions have led to a number of blazes in the region in the past few weeks and much of southwestern North Dakota was under Red Flag warnings Tuesday. Mott and the Medora area experienced first hand what the dry conditions can do on Tuesday.
A semi hauling hay caught fire at approximately 1 p.m. today about four miles west of Medora on east-bound lane of Interstate 94, bringing traffic to a hault, according to the North Daktoa Highway Patrol.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture accepted 3.9 million acres offered nationwide under the Farm Service Agency’s 43rd Conservation Reserve Program general signup, including 190,000 acres in North Dakota.
The moisture seems to be just about right this year for farmers and ranchers throughout the area putting most crops near or ahead of average in development, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture North Dakota Field Office.
