BISMARCK (AP) — The number of oversize and overweight trucks using county roads and bridges in North Dakota’s Oil Patch has more than doubled in three years, and while counties are collecting millions of dollars in permit fees, officials say the money isn’t enough or even earmarked for road maintenance.
A semi hauling hay caught fire at approximately 1 p.m. today about four miles west of Medora on east-bound lane of Interstate 94, bringing traffic to a hault, according to the North Daktoa Highway Patrol.
Construction will begin Monday on the westbound lane of Interstate 94 between Dickinson and Taylor, according to a North Dakota Department of Transportation press release. Work consists of pavement reconstruction and regrading.
HILLSBORO (AP) — A semi veered into a sheriff’s vehicle trying to help a stuck car in blizzard conditions on Interstate 29, killing one of two women who had been in the car and injuring the sheriff, authorities say.
A semi truck with an oversized load tipped over after sliding off the slippery Interstate 94 on-ramp near Tiger Discount Wednesday.
Trooper Shawn Skogen, with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, said the accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. and caused more than $1,000 in damages to the rig. He added the semi slid in the snow about 150 feet before tipping over.
