BAGHDAD — There was no “Mission Accomplished” banner. No victory parade down the center of this capital scarred by nearly nine years of war. No crowds of cheering Iraqis grateful for liberation from Saddam Hussein.
A 175-pound, 44-inch-tall bronze statue consisting of a pair of boots and an upside down gun topped with a helmet will be erected in honor of Spc. Jon Fettig of Dickinson who was killed during an ambush rocket grenade attack near Ar Ramadi, Iraq in July 2003 next to the Euphrates River.
