BISMARCK — The amount of chemically tainted soil and other drilling waste produced in western North Dakota’s thriving Oil Patch has been growing so quickly that the special landfills where it’s disposed are filling up and the state will soon need more of them, state health officials say.
Oil executive Nathan Garber made an initial appearance at the Stark County Courthouse in Dickinson on Wednesday on charges that he illegally threatened area drinking water with his company’s hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” waste disposal practices.
MEDORA — Between 80 and 100 acres of land off of Highway 85 north of Fairfield could be used for an oil and gas waste disposal site in about a year if local and state officials approve, John McCain, vice president and senior engineer of Carlson McCain, said during a Billings County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Thursday at the Courthouse.
BISMARCK (AP) — New rules to restrict oil waste disposal were delayed Tuesday when Gov. Jack Dalrymple said the regulations were too vague about whether some producers would be allowed to continue dumping in open pits.
