Starting May 27, farmers and ranchers in North Dakota will hear from the National Agriculture Statistics Service in regards to their operations in an effort to better form agricultural policy.

“This is the first program in the history of the USDA that is paying them (producers) for the good things that they are doing,” district conservationist Wendy Bartholomay said. The Conservation Security Program offered through the Natural Resource Conservation Service, unlike the CRP program will pay producers for conservation activities on land that remains in production or is used for grazing.

Signup time is running out, CSP program application period ends May 16

Ag producers in southwestern North Dakota have two weeks left to signup for the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Conservation Security Program. The initial signup began on April 16 and has been slow. But because of recent rainfall in the region, producers had a little time apply for the program late this week.

WASHINGTON – Struggling lawmakers had hoped to finish farm bill legislation this week so a final version could be debated on the House and Senate floor next week. But following a meeting that lasted until early Friday morning, some key issues, including the size of payments to wealthy farmers, remained unresolved.
