Letter: Experience a benefit to board

After thoughtful consideration of Mr. Ralph Muecke's request to withdraw from the Dickinson City School Board race in the "Letters to the Editor" section of last week's Press, I have decided to forgo the advice and continue my candidacy.

In my mind, "everyone's best interests" would be served by having a few seats on the board occupied by educators who have "been there and done that." I choose to run for school board because I am a lifelong educator who has taught at every level. At this point in my professional life, I hope to give back to the profession that has given me so much. As an educator, I struggle imagining a school board not composed of a few educators. Likewise, I can't imagine a city commission not composed of a few business people from the private sector. There is seldom an ample substitute for experience. Hopefully, my experience as a lifelong educator will be perceived as a benefit to the school board.

In running for the position of school board, I have no agenda. I simply want to maintain our focus on the students as our number one priority while enabling even greater teacher effectiveness. Dickinson is a great community with a great educational system; and I would be honored to serve if elected!
