Letter: Thanks to Heitkamp on anniversary of wildfire

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., has been a longtime supporter of the ranchers and grazing associations in North Dakota. The senator has extended that help and support to the Grand River Cooperative Grazing Association in Lemmon, S.D., because it is part of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands managed by the U.S. Forest Service in Bismarck.

The Grand River Cooperative Grazing Association and its members want to thank Sen. Heitkamp for her help in dealing with the 11,000-acre Pautre wildfire that occurred on April 3, 2013. Because of her efforts and support in the federal tort claims process, the grazing association and its members affected by the wildfire stand a chance to get reimbursed for the damages caused by the U.S. Forest Service.

The association would also like to thank Sen. Heitkamp for her support in the memorandum of understand process between the grazing association, the Dakota Prairie Grasslands Forest Service and the Departments of Agriculture for North Dakota and South Dakota. The senator’s support is key in trying to keep a cooperative relationship between the parties.
