A wine and cheesecake shindig
A Wine and Cheesecake Shindig is an opportunity to enjoy an evening with friends, while supporting the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center. The event will be held from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Ramada Grand Dakota Hotel.
“Last year we had a phenomenal turnout,” said Kayla Messall, direct services provider. “I honestly think it's because we have such a great community -- people truly care about what we do and believe in us.”
She still remembers the cheesecakes prepared by the chefs last year including lemon raspberry, espresso and chocolate.
“The entertainment was amazing, and the Fun Pianos by 176 keys is coming back,” she said. “They are extremely talented, and very honestly the best entertainment I’ve ever seen. People liked them last year and wanted them to come back.”
Funding will go toward the daily costs at the center.
“With a new and bigger building, we will be increasing operating costs,” she said.
The 28-bed center is projected to be completed by August.
“Domestic violence has always been here and is something that’s not going away. My personal opinion, with the increase of drug abuse and alcohol, we’re definitely seeing an increase in the severity of domestic violence -- it escallates it.”
