CommUniversity seeks course proposals
For more than three decades, CommUniversity has presented month-long courses each February to the Dickinson public.
CommUniversity is dedicated to lifelong learning, but follows the motto of "No Homework; No Tests." Although presenters should have a knowledge of the planned subject, training as a teacher is not required. Past presenters have included Dickinson State University faculty, students and staff, as well as regional community members.
The CommUniversity Advisory Committee is seeking proposals from individuals or groups who wish to present a course this winter. Six courses will be selected from those proposed, and each will meet for four 90-minute sessions each weekend of February 2018.
A sample of previous course topics include German cooking, watercolor painting, the fur trade, stage makeup, genealogy, films, quilting and food preservation.
Most courses will be taught in classrooms with audio-visual and computer projection facilities. The instructor or instructors of each course will receive one payment of $500. Multiple instructors in one course must share this payment.
Proposals are due Wednesday, Oct. 18. All proposals should include the course title; course overview (100 words or less); a weekly summary with a description of each class session (300 to 500 words total); and a presenter bio addressing knowledge of topic (100 words or less).
Email proposals or questions about CommUniversity to Dr. Kathleen Geisen at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also mail proposals to Dr. Kathleen Geisen, Director of Special Projects, Dickinson State University, 291 Campus Dr., Dickinson, ND 58601 for receipt no later than Wednesday, Oct. 18.
