Dickinson High choirs and bands to present variety of holiday music

The Dickinson High School Instrumental and Vocal Music Department is presenting its annual holiday concert at 7 p.m., Tuesday in Dickinson State University Stickney Auditorium.

The annual celebration concert will feature the Concert Band, Wind Band, Chorale, Festival Choir, Concert Choir and Swing Choir. The concert concludes with the joining of all the DHS musicians.

The Concert Band and Wind Band will play a variety of songs from the season, including “A Showstoppin’ Christmas” by Chris Sharp and “Blue Christmas” by Billy Hayes.

 The choirs will present songs from different aspects of the season, ranging from “Nes Gadol,” a Hanukkah song, and “personet Hodie,” one of the oldest Christmas songs, to the “Jingle Bells” arrangement used by Barbara Streisand.

DHS instrumental activities are under the direction of Keith Traquair and DHS Vocal activities are under the direction of Michael Stevenson, with accompaniment by Sharon Gegelmann.

A free-will donation will be accepted at the door.
