Activities for all at Family Fun Day
The Best Friends Mentoring program is organizing its 17th annual Family Fun Day with outdoor activities, music and food vendors. The event is from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Jaycee Park.
“Dickinson State University is partnering with us to make the best Family Fun Day we’ve ever had,” Best Friends Executive Director Kris Fehr said.
The event will introduce a new volcano climbing wall as part of a giant playground for kids of all ages.
“We wanted to have some additional activities to do and the climbing wall is one of the new items,” she said. “With DSU not having its Arts Roundup this year, we thought, why not add a few more things and the volcano wall is one of them.”
The playground includes inflatable bouncers, obstacle courses, giant slide, jouster, miniature golf, slam dunk, football toss, face painting, wash-off tattoos and barrel train rides.
“One thing that may entice people with is an NDSU Bison Bounce and Slide,” Fehr said. “I know NDSU Bison fans will get their pictures taken by it. It’s what they use at their tailgate parties at NDSU.”
A variety of food vendors will provide concessions, including hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, chips, taco-in-a-bag, ice cream, root beer floats and drinks.
“This is one of the few events where no alcohol is available,” she said. “Come and sit in the shade and enjoy the afternoon. We’ll have security and first-aid people on hand — it’s really a family time.”
There will be several musical performances, including an appearance by Burn the Floor Diversity in Dance studio.
Attendees may purchase wristbands in advance for $10 at the Best Friends Mentoring office at 135 West Villard in Dickinson or online at www.bestfriendsnd.org. Wristbands are $12 at the park.
Tickets for the volcano climbing wall are sold separately for $2.
The organizers are looking for additional volunteers to help take tickets, check wristbands at booths, take photos, drive the train and help with setup.
The shifts include 8-10 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 2-5:30 p.m. All volunteers will be provided with a Best Friends T-shirt and water. Volunteers who work for two shifts will be provided with a Best Friends T-shirt, water and a meal from the Best Friends concession booth.
