Frank Klein

Frank Klein, 91, Mott, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Mott.

Frank's Mass of Christian burial is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent, with the Rev Charles Zins and Deacon Don Gion officiating.

Burial is in the Regent Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. on Friday at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott, and continues one hour prior to services at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent, on Saturday.

A rosary service is at 7 p.m. on Friday at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent.

Special music will be provided by Cindy Krauter.

Serving as casketbearers are Kevin Remington, Kevin Remington Jr., Scott Remington, Jon Doe, Gregg Klein, Robb Hauser and Loren Dowhaniuk.

All of Frank's grandchildren and great-grandchildren are honorary bearers.

A memorial has been established to St. Henry's Catholic Church and to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center.

Frank Klein was born in Mott on May 29, 1916, the son of Michael and Margaret (Jahner) Klein. He was the oldest of 14 children. He was raised on a farm north of Mott and attended grade school.

As a young man, Frank moved to Rochester, Minn., and worked as a custodian at St. Mary's Hospital.

He met Monica Sticka and they were united in marriage on Sept. 21, 1937, in Shefield.

They began their life together on a farm north of Mott, in the St. Michael's Community.

In 1942, they farmed north of Regent for one year, and then purchased a farm closer to Regent, where they resided until retiring and moving into Regent.

In 2003, Frank and Monica moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott.

Frank drove school bus for the Regent School District for 15 years.

He loved little children and always had a treat for them in his shirt pocket.

He also enjoyed playing pool, cards and his accordion.

From 1941 until 1951, Frank had his own dance band called, "Frank Klein's Swing Band," and played for many weddings and special occasions in the surrounding area.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling to area nursing homes entertaining the residents playing his accordion.

Frank was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Club, St Pius Verein, Shefield, and a past member of St Anthony's Club in Dickinson.

He is survived by his two daughters, Doris Dowhaniuk, Rochester Minn., and Della (Robert) Hauser, Colfax, Wash., son, Lawrence (Jeanne Welsch) Klein, Regent; three grandsons, Robb Hauser, Loren Dowhaniuk and Gregg Klein; six granddaughters, Ruth (Hauser) Pells, RaeAnn (Hauser) Fleming, Rachelle (Hauser) Ledbetter, Lori Dowhaniuk, Kim (Klein) Doe and Lisa (Klein) Remington; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray (Shirley) Klein, Sequim, Wash., Joe (Lois) Klein, Rochester, Minn., Pete (Barbara) Klein, Dickinson; sisters-in-aw, Donna Klein, Rapid City, S.D., and Lorraine Klein, Rochester; five sisters, Ceil Fritsch, Mary (Ray) Friedt, Kate (Leonard) Messmer, all of Rochester, Minn., Margaret (Matthew) Helfrich, Billings, Mont., Tony Helfrich, Killdeer, and Emma Friedt, Mott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Monica Klein; two grandsons, Scott Klein and Allen Dowhaniuk; four brothers, Michael, Tony, Kasper and Sam Klein; and one sister, Irene Helfrich.
