Man suspected of trying to run over Bismarck police officer found in South Dakota

Man gets 8 months for fertilizer theft

FARGO (AP) -- A man who admitted stealing more than $600,000 worth of fertilizer over a nine-year period has been sentenced to eight months in prison.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson says the prison term for 70-year-old Larry Schrader should be followed by eight months of home monitoring. Schrader, of West Fargo, had pleaded guilty to one felony count of transportation of stolen goods.

Authorities say Schrader took the fertilizer from the ConAgra Foods outlet where he worked as sales manager, and sold it through his own business.

Schrader faced a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Prosecutors asked for a sentence of 30 months in prison.
