NDSU child care center closing

A child care center at North Dakota State University is closing, putting eight people out of work and leaving families to find new care for dozens of children.

The Center for Child Development will stop offering child care services after June 17 and will close June 30.

The NDSU College of Human Development and Education recently stopped offering early childhood education classes. Dean Virginia Clark Johnson says all expenses not central to the university's academic mission have to be scrutinized, and closing the center is "an unfortunate reality."

Thirty-eight children get care at the center. Clark Johnson says NDSU will work with families to help them identify other care options. She says the eight full-time staff might get other jobs on campus but it isn't likely.
