Future of Slope County Courthouse uncertain

AMIDON (AP) -- The last remaining wood-frame courthouse in North Dakota might soon be history.

The Slope County Commission is faced with either spending at least $1 million to renovate the 1917 structure or replacing it. A courthouse committee has hired an architect to determine how big a new courthouse would need to be, and to estimate costs.

Commission Chairman Mike Teske said that the existing courthouse needs everything from sewer work and electrical upgrades to new carpeting and paint. The two-story building also has no elevator.
