Update: Washington motorcyclist killed north of Belfield identified

A 57-year-old Auburn, Wash., man killed Tuesday afternoon after his Harley Davidson motorcycle entered a ditch and struck an embankment was identified Wednesday as Mark Engel, authorities said.

A North Dakota Highway Patrol report states that at 3:24 p.m., Engel was traveling north on Highway 85 about 13 miles north of Belfield when, for unknown reasons, the 2007 Harley Davidson entered the east ditch. Once in the ditch, the motorcycle struck a dirt embankment.

Spirit Lifeline in Dickinson responded to the scene, where crews pronounced him dead.

The Highway Patrol report states that the crash occurred in a construction zone, however the road was not affected by construction and was in normal condition. The work was being completed in the ditches.
