Total Nutrition supplements Dickinson

There is no magic weight loss pill or shake, but a little bit of guidance with the right supplements can help the average person attain their fitness goals.

Total Nutrition, which opened in west Dickinson this fall, is more than a supplement store.

Its employees are trained nutritionists and do more than just sell protein powder and vitamin pills.

“We’re more about the customer experience and helping people that way,” owner Jeff Fowler said. “Everybody has different goals. It’s talking to them and finding out their goals first, and coming up with a plan to do what they want to do.”

While vitamin, mineral and weight loss supplements can help, without a healthy diet and exercise it’s impossible to achieve fitness, Fowler said.

“Weight loss supplements help you burn more calories and give you more energy,” Fowler said. “But if nobody explains to you how to eat right, you’ll still burn more calories, but you can’t expect to lose a lot of weight if you’re eating five pizzas every day.”

While his products can help, customers need to put the effort in for them to really work.

“A shake, for example, they tend to think that’s a magical ‘I drink this shake to lose weight,’” Fowler said. “It’s a healthy serving of protein — (it’s like) having a chicken breast in liquid form, a convenient way to do it.”

In addition to selling supplements, Total Nutrition helps with meal planning.

Fowler moved Total Nutrition to Dickinson because of the oil boom, and plans to expand into other oil-heavy markets like Williston and Minot when space becomes available.

“The people that work here live the lifestyle,” Fowler said. “They might not be the Incredible Hulk or something, but everyone works out in some aspect.”

Fowler encourages people to come in and talk to him or his staff about some of the things they can do nutritionally to help lose weight or get in shape.

“There’s no reason to be intimidated,” Fowler said.
