The Dickinson Police Department are seeking information in connection to an assault on Friday, with a suspect currently at-large.

Officers arrived at the 2000 block of First Avenue West in response to a 911 call of an assault with a firearm. According to the caller, a person had been shot in the head.

Responding officers encountered numerous subjects milling around the area of a male victim with injuries to his head. The victim was transported to CHI St. Alexius by the Dickinson ambulance service, where the injuries were determined not to be life-threatening and inconsistent with a gunshot - likely blunt force trauma.

During the investigation, witnesses identified the suspect as a black man wearing dark clothing, who had a handgun. According to witnesses, the assault began with a verbal altercation in the outdoor patio area of a nearby sports bar before moving into the street outside the bar, where the altercation became physical and a firearm was fired.

Detectives have been unable to confirm whether a firearm was actually fired.

The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Vincent K. Hopper of Dickinson.

Hopper is reported to have fled on foot prior to the arrival of police, who have been unable to find Hopper for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.
