Ag Commissioner warns of grain scam
Individuals possibly impersonating state employees in order to take photos and samples of grain have been reported.
“We’ve received calls from concerned farmers about individuals acting in an official capacity, taking photos and samples of their wheat fields,” North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said in a statement. “It was perceived that this individual was from state government, but after inquiries into various state agencies, including NDSU, we’ve not found authorization for any work of this type.”
Goehring advises farmers to ask for credentials if approached about a grain sample. An individual working for the state should be able to provide their name, the department they work for, credentials and give the reason for their visit.
"If you feel there is a suspicious person or activity in your neighborhood, please call the local authorities," he said.
