Man struck, killed by semi on I-94 in eastern ND

CASSELTON, N.D. -- A 35-year-old man outside of his vehicle was struck and killed by a semi traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near Exit 234 six miles west of Casselton early Thursday morning, May 17.

A 36-year-old semi driver from St. Cloud, Minn., was unable to avoid the man in the right lane of Interstate 94 at 3:13 a.m., according to a report from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Casselton is about 25 miles west of Fargo.

The pedestrian was involved in another crash nearby. The Highway Patrol reports that the pedestrian is the registered owner of a Chevrolet Corsica that was eastbound on I-94 and had entered the median and struck the barrels protecting the bridge abutment of the overpass. The Chevrolet was disabled and unoccupied when found by law enforcement.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
