Elizabeth Beecroft, 22, appeared via interactive TV from the Grand Forks County jail, showing a large bruise around her left eye.

David Jones, an assistant state’s attorney for Grand Forks County, told state District Judge Jon Jensen she hit Grand Forks Police Officer Daniel Harvala “with intent to cause bodily harm,” a Class C felony count with a top sentence of five years in prison if she’s convicted.

Jones asked for her bail to be set at $1,000 cash or surety and that urine tests are ordered.

“She has no prior criminal record, but this was some very extreme erratic behavior involved here,” Jones said.

Beecroft  said she’s a senior majoring in anthropology originally from Minnewaukan.

“I don’t know what happened, other than what people told me,” Beecroft said. “I wasn’t on drugs. I’ve never done drugs in my entire life. It was just alcohol.”

Jensen set Beecroft’s preliminary hearing for Feb. 12. She remained in jail Monday evening.
