BISMARCK — Police have identified the man struck by a train here early Sunday as 34-year-old Keith Grindstone of Mandan.

A BNSF employee reported the incident at 2:34 a.m. in the 1900 block of East Main Avenue.

Bismarck police Sgt. Mark Buschena said Grindstone was lying in a fetal position between the rails, and the engineer tried but wasn’t able to stop the eastbound train in time.

Grindstone was declared dead at the scene. His body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, Buschena said.
