DEVILS LAKE — The home of a Devils Lake man killed in a traffic accident Sunday night near Buxton may have been burglarized over the weekend.

The family of Monte Allen Armentrout discovered possible signs of forced entry Monday when they went to the house, Devils Lake police said.

“The residence was believed to have been burglarized Sunday night,” police Detective Sue Schwab said. “There are signs of possible forced entry. They’re still trying to determine what’s missing.”

Schwab said there were no signs of ransacking in the house. The incident remains under investigation.

Armentrout, 53, who was confined to a wheelchair, was traveling alone at about 6 p.m. Sunday, en route to the Minneapolis area, when he was involved in a traffic accident along Interstate 29 near Buxton, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported.

According to the report, he was driving a 1998 Ford Minivan and had just passed another vehicle and merged back into the right lane of travel when the minivan started to weave back and forth in the lane. The van drifted across the left lane, entered the median and struck the center concrete pillar of the Exit 118 overpass.
