Man charged after bonfire accident injures 5

MINOT — A man has been charged after a vehicle shock absorber was thrown onto a bonfire and exploded, injuring five people.

Some of the injuries are serious, a news release from the Ward County Sheriff’s Office said. Four people were still hospitalized Wednesday. It did not identify those injured.

Weston C. Mattison, 19, of Minot, has been charged with one count of endangering by fire explosion, a Class B felony.

Officials from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department and Minot Police Department responded to a loud party complaint in southeast Minot just before midnight Saturday. Most of the party-goers had left and the fire was almost out when officers arrived. The officers then learned of the explosion.
