Three children in protective custody after Fargo drug raid
FARGO — Two people are in custody and three small children in protective custody after police executed a drug raid on their home, which police said was reeking of cat urine and filled with drugs within reach of the children.
Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said police executed a search warrant at 9:30 a.m. Thursday on a home in the 3500 block of 30th Avenue South based on information about prior drug activity there.
Inside, a 1-year-old child was locked alone inside a darkened bedroom, and officers had to break in the door to get it open.
The home was dirty and in disarray, and officers’ eyes were watering from the “overwhelming” smell of cat urine, Vettel said.
Items of marijuana paraphernalia, including a scale, and 5 ounces of pot were within reach of the 3 children, the third of whom was an infant less than 2 months old, he said.
The children were removed from the home and turned over to Social Services, Vettel said.
The two adult residents, Wesley Wayne Gilbert, 32, and Amanda Jo Gilbert, 23, were arrested on suspicion of drug dealing and paraphernalia possession.
