Minn. man charged with killing cat

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — A Fergus Falls man faces a felony charge after killing his cat with a butcher knife, police said.

Keith Dement, 26, had an argument with his girlfriend around 1 a.m. Thursday, said Fergus Falls police Officer Nathan Lien.

Dement’s girlfriend told him to take the cat out of the house, Lien said. He took the knife and the cat outside.

Lien said Dement confessed to officers called to the scene that he killed the animal and hid its body in a bucket.

Dement was in custody in the Otter Tail County Jail. He faces a felony charge of mistreatment of an animal.
