Fargo candidate won’t face charges for water tower projection

FARGO — Cass County’s top prosecutor says he won’t file charges against a City Commission candidate and school board member over the recent projection of a campaign image on a city water tower.

John Strand landed in some hot water last month for projecting his “I Stand with Strand” campaign logo onto the side of the water tower.

While Strand argued it was legal, Cass County State’s Attorney Birch Burdick said the projection could have been a violation of state law, which prohibits the use of public property for political purposes.

After an unnamed resident filed a formal complaint, police began investigating Strand for the projection.

Burdick announced that he would not seek charges against Strand.
