Brett Rikess, 44, of St. Paul, Minn., was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, driving under the influence and fleeing a police officer.

State Radio received a call at about 6:20 p.m. CDT Saturday reporting a reckless driver in a 2003 Toyota 4Runner traveling westbound just west of New Salem near milemarker 126.

A Highway Patrol trooper attempted to make a traffic stop but Rikess fled westbound.

Near milemarker 82, about 2 miles west of Richardton, troopers and Stark County Sheriff’s deputies set up tire-flattening spikes.

Rikess drove over the spikes, causing his front two tires to go flat. He was arrested once the vehicle stopped.
