A request was made for an investigation, West Fargo police said in a statement Friday.

Police would not identify the dead boy and said the investigation has been turned over to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.

The West Fargo Police Department responded June 13 to a report of an infant not breathing at an apartment.

Officers tried to resuscitate the child, who was transported by ambulance to Essentia Hospital, where the boy was placed on life support and died the next day.

An autopsy was performed at the University of North Dakota Medical Center in Grand Forks.
