Two injured in motorcycle accident

AMIDON — A weekend crash near Amidon has left two motorcyclists injured.

Gordon Scott Leist, 52, was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson Classic Saturday on Highway 85 when the bike overturned and ejected him and his passenger, Sandra Leist, 47. Both are from Alexander, according to a North Dakota Highway Patrol release.

Gordon Leist was driving south and was unable to stop properly for slowing traffic. After being ejected, the motorcycle hit a Chevrolet C-10 pickup driven by Thomas Ready of Towner, according to the release. Ready, 62, was not injured.

Both Gordon and Sandra Leist were wearing helmets. The motorcycle was totaled.

The Leists were transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson by the Belfield and New England ambulance services, according to the release.

Gordon Leist was cited for not having insurance on the motorcycle and for following too close.

The Slope County Sheriff’s Department, Amidon Fire Rescue and New England Fire Rescue responded to the incident.
