Using night vision goggles and a helicopter, agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Air and Marine found the distressed vessel and guided rescue personnel to it on Lower Red Lake about 3:30 a.m.

The Red Lake Police Department called the federal agency about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Two agents, assigned to the North Dakota Air Branch, assisted with a “search and rescue mission of a vessel in distress that was carrying four individuals,” according to a news release.

“The crew searched the Red Lake area utilizing their night vision goggles and a forward looking infrared (FLIR) system.”

“This case is a testament to how well we work with our fellow law enforcement partners when lives are at risk,” said Greg Abner, director of Air Operations, North Dakota Air Branch. “I am just glad we were able to respond so quickly and assist in saving the lives of four people today.”

The names of the people rescued were not released. The news release said two adults and two children were found in stable condition.
