Off-duty Moorhead police sergeant arrested for driving under the influence

MOORHEAD, Minn. - A 20-year veteran of the Moorhead Police Department is in jail and is being charged with driving under the influence.

According to the Moorhead Police Department, around 7 p.m. Thursday night, August 2, someone called police when they saw a drunk man getting into his car outside Mick's Office Bar in Moorhead.

Police ran the plates and learned that is was the personal vehicle of Sergeant Thad Stafford. They tracked him down and pulled him over on the 200 block of 33rd St S.

He was arrested and is currently at the Clay County Jail and will be put on administrative leave.

The investigation is ongoing.
