Kitchen supervisor sentenced for having sex in ND jail's walk-in cooler

RUGBY, N.D. - A 51-year-old Towner man who had an affair with a female inmate while working as a cook at the Heart of America Correctional Center pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of Class A misdemeanor adultery.

Marcelo Revelero Lara had originally been charged with Class C felony abuse of wards. The charge was reduced under the terms of a plea deal.

Lara was sentenced on Aug. 21 in district court in Pierce County to 360 days, all suspended but 60 days, and 360 days of unsupervised probation. He was also ordered to pay $425 in court costs.

Lara had sex with the 33-year-old female inmate in the walk-in cooler in the jail kitchen, according to court documents. The woman had been working in the kitchen and Lara was her supervisor. Both Lara and the woman said the affair was consensual. Another female inmate working in the kitchen told authorities about the affair between Lara and the other inmate.

Lara’s wife signed a complaint for adultery earlier this summer.
