First day at Prairie Rose Elementary School
Prairie Rose students play football in the parking lot, which served as a makeshift playground on the school's first day, before beginning classes. The players were, clockwise from left, first-grader Carson Wyant, third-grader Malachi Nelson, third-grader Cade Wyant, first-grader and "referee" Cash Crimmons and second-grader Jacob Herbel. Dickinson's new elementary school started classes at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Prairie Rose was nearly two years in the making and was built to accommodate an increase in elementary students from young families moving into the area to take advantage of employment opportunities. The Dickinson Public School District estimated there would be 289 more students in the district from Day 1 2012 to Day 1 2013. There are about 280 students at Prairie Rose.
