Dickinson looking for new Planning and Zoning Commission member

The Dickinson City Commission is looking to fill a spot on the City Planning and Zoning Commission after member Thomas Grimm resigned.

Grimm, a professional engineer, gave his notice about a month ago, citing a move to Florida to be closer to family.

The city commission is accepting citizen interest forms, available at, for the position. Mayor Dennis Johnson will make the final appointment.

City Administrator Shawn Kessel, who will help make recommendations to the commission, said anybody who has an interest in serving on the planning and zoning commission is welcome to apply.

“Obviously we want somebody who at least has a background or exposure in planning processes, easement processes, growth scenarios and planning,” Kessel said.

Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Earl Abrahamson said he just wants “someone with an open mind.”

The city has already received a couple of applications. There is no timeline for appointing a new member, Kessel said. The city will keep the position open until it finds the right candidate.
