Montana man dies in rollover near Gladstone

GLADSTONE -- A Montana man has died after being ejected from a vehicle two miles east of Gladstone early Saturday morning, according to North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Dillon Welch, 23, of Hysham, Mont., was driving a 1997 Honda CR-V on a county gravel road with passenger Jason Mitchel, 20, of Glendive, Mont.

Welch failed to control the vehicle while turning, caused by alcohol consumption and a high rate of speed, according to Highway Patrol.

The vehicle left the roadway and rolled over about two-and-a-half times. Both men were ejected from the totalled vehicle, which stopped in a nearby pasture.

Welch was flown to St. Alexius in Bismarck, where he later died because of his injuries. First-responders took Mitchel to St. Joseph’s in Dickinson by ambulance.

Dickinson Ambulance Service and Spirit Lifeline responded to the accident. Neither men were wearing their seatbelts.

The accident remains under investigation by Highway Patrol.

California man dies after car flips

WATFORD CITY -- A California man died after a car he was a passenger in flipped over approximately five miles east of Watford City late Saturday.

Kyle Ochoa, 21, of Claremont, Calif. was driving a 2006 Honda Accord westbound on North Dakota Highway 23 on Saturday, along with passenger Eduardo Garay, 25, of Fontana, Calif.

At about 10:31 p.m., Ochoa failed to control his vehicle when turning, causing the Honda to slide into a north ditch and strike a field approach, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The vehicle became airborne, flipped and landed on its passenger side.

Garay died at the scene because of injuries sustained in the accident.

The McKenzie County Ambulance Service transported Ochoa to McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City for his injuries. He was later airlifted to Trinity Hospital in Minot.

Both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. Ochoa was arrested for driving under the influence. The Highway Patrol believes alcohol was a factor in the accident.
