Flash flood warning issued for Medora area

Western and central North Dakota is under a flash flood watch, with parts of Golden Valley and Billings counties under a flash flood warning until 3 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service in Bismarck issued the flash flood warning at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Thursday. Doppler radar indicated a slow-moving storm with heavy rainfall had entered the region. NWS estimates more than 3 inches of rain have fallen over portions of the warned area, with another 2 inches possible.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur in area around Medora.

Residents are warned not to enter water with vehicles or walk through flooded areas. Residents should move to higher ground.

The flood watch is expected to expire late Friday evening for most of the state.
