Updated: Texas man dies in semi crash near Killdeer

KILLDEER -- A Texas man died Saturday night after a head-on collision west of Killdeer.

Aaron Petree, 34, of Abilene, Texas, died after the 1996 Chevy Blazer he was driving collided with a 2009 Peterbilt pulling tanker trailer on Highway 200, one-half mile west of Killdeer, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Petree was traveling eastbound on Highway 200 while Russel Ware of Blackfoot, Idaho, the semi driver, was driving westbound en route to Watford City. Petree crossed the center line and struck Ware’s vehicle head on.

Petree’s vehicle rotated on the roadway and came to a rest in the north ditch. Ware’s vehicle left the roadway and came to a rest in the south ditch.

Petree was not wearing his seatbelt and was fully ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. Ware was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by Dickinson Ambulance.

This crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
